About the Book
"Communication is a bit like love — it's what makes the world go round, but nobody really knows how it works." Struggle to find the words in meetings? Know what you mean but not how to say it? From Aristotle's thoughts on presenting to the Harvard Negotiation Project, internationally bestselling duo Mikael Krogerus and Roman Tschäppeler have tested the 44 most important communication theories and distilled them into a single, small but mighty volume, alongside clear and entertaining illustrations by Sven Weber.
Organized into sections on work, the self, relationships, and language, the book delivers concrete, immediately useful advice: want better conversations? Ask open-ended questions that have no right or wrong answers, making your partner feel brilliant. Want better meetings? Ban smartphones, use a timer, and make everyone stand up. Want better business deals? Focus on the thing rather than the person, on similarities rather than differences, and on good outcomes rather than perfect ones. Covering ideas ranging from the Expectancy Violations Theory and Transactional Analysis to the Framing Effect, McLuhan's Media Theory, and the Peak-End Rule, the book fuses theoretical knowledge with practical, real-world advice, making it indispensable for anyone who wants to improve what they say and how they say it.
Reader Reception
The Communication Book has become an internationally bestselling addition to Krogerus and Tschäppeler's celebrated series of visually engaging idea books. Readers have praised its accessible, illustrated format for making dense communication theory genuinely digestible and immediately applicable, with one reviewer describing it as "a balm for your conversational" struggles for anyone whose social confidence sometimes fizzles out mid-sentence. Fans particularly appreciate the book's structure of one clear, standalone idea per short chapter, making it easy to read cover to cover or dip into for a specific challenge.
